Three Words
1. Landscape
I chose the word 'landscape' while aware that I was going to visit America. My aim with this word was to capture vast landscapes that contain some negative space. Going into this task I made sure that may framing was correct and I was keeping the height and angle of the photo was straight. I took some of these photographs in Chicago, Detroit and Long Island. My intentions for this word were to capture images including vast horizons and experiment with negative space. The techniques I used while taking these photographs was the run of thirds. I made sure that almost all the features involved in these photographs lined up correctly with the grid embedded in the camera screen.
The artist I've decided to link to my word is Ansel Adams. Ansel Adams was a renowned American photographer known for his pioneering work in landscape photography, particularly his black and white images of the American West, including iconic photographs of national parks like Yosemite and Yellowstone.

2. People
I decided to chose the word 'people' because I was intrigued by the idea of photographing people in their natural state (without posing for the camera). To do this I hide my camera close to my body and took pictures of people minding their own business around the streets of Chicago and Long Island. While taking the photographs I made sure to keep in mind to be as subtle as to maintain the facts that the person being photographed is unaware that their picture is being taken. I took all the picture of people in streets while walking. My intentions for these photographs was to capture
The artist I've decided to link to this word is Peter Funch. Peter Funch is a Danish photographer. Funch's work often had a strong narrative quality. Through his carefully composed images and the juxtaposition of different moments in time, he was able to tell intriguing and sometimes enigmatic stories within a single photograph. Viewers were often drawn into his images, trying to decipher the underlying narratives.

3. Street
I decided to chose the word 'streets' because I am interested in the structure of the man made environment. To take these photographs I aimed to position myself in exactly in the middle of the street to create a very symmetrical appearance or from an angle looking up to emphasis the size and shape of the structures. I took these photographs in Chicago. My intentions for these photographs were to capture both the environment while also capturing the action. By this I mean capturing the street and all of it character and detail while also capturing what is happening in the street whether its cars people or animals. The techniques I used were
The artist I've decided to link to my word is Joel Meyerowitz. Joel Meyerowitz is a American photographer known for his pioneering work in colour photography and his contributions to the field of street photography. Meyerowitz's work is characterised by his keen observational skills and a deep connection to the human experience. His photographs often feature candid moments and interactions between people, revealing the complexities of urban life.

Exhibition visit
Paul Mcartneys behind the scene pictures
This exhibition was about on the same photos from the Beatles tour from the 1st of October 1963 to March 1964. All the pictures were taken from the time around the performance and we all taken from the waist higher or head shots. We will lead round the exhibition in order of each performance. There were lots of diary entries presented around the exhibition to add interest towards the photos that presented different sizes. A particular piece that caught my interest was a photo called day in the life, this picture was taken in Paris in 1964. I particularly like this picture because it shows the Beatles life from that point of view.
Johnny Pitts: Home is not a place
These photographs were taken between 2021 and 2022 along the British coast. Johnny Pitt intentions for taking these photos was the answer the question of what is black Britain. The pictures were presented symmetrically side-by-side each other. We would lead around the exhibition in a figure of eight. They were different types of lighting and and objects to maintain the interest of the images.
Evelyn Hofer
These photos were taken throughout 1993-1994, and printed in the life magazine. All the photos were presented symmetrically with lots of colour and big frames. The pictures were hung on the wall in order of locations visited. A picture that caught my interest was a photo called ‘hot dog stand’. This picture is taken a New York in 1963. I like this picture because of the angle from which it was taken and how it shows the emotions and reactions of the people working at the stand. All these pictures were developed in Evelyn studio in New York. Her main influence for taking these pictures by her love for Renaissance painting.

Three Strands
Urban Landscape
Im going to interoperate foreground by experiment with different angles including different amount of close objects while still having a background involved in the photo. My intentions for this strand is to take images of vast urban landscape. Within these images I hope to capture different types of structures and building to create different levels and layers.

For these images I focused on reflection and used images that I had already taken and printed them out. I also used black ink and water to create a reflective surface. I then used a studio light to experiment with different levels of light to see how visible the reflection appears with the light and different angles.

Second Response
For this response I cut out the main objects in the image (buildings and bridges). Once cut out I stuck the image into a piece of card and used black sheets of plastic to cover the white tray, while someone blows air on the water to create ripples in the water.

Third Response
For this response I traveled to locations around Tower Bridge and took photographs incorporating the sunset and the sky. Once I returned to school I had printed out some of the images and used to same techniques as last time where I used a try of black ink and water to create a reflection, however this time I didn't cut out the sky so their was more to reflect.
Developed Response
www: I am happy with these responses as I have changed and experimented with different techniques and process of taking images and I'am pleased with the final response ad my goal was to reflect an image and feel as thought I gradually got better at it.
ebi: I would have liked to do this same process but with buildings that don't have water beside them already so I am the sole reason that their is a reflection.

Natural landscape
Im going to interoperate negative space by experimenting with the amount of negative space involved in the photograph while also experimenting with the angles used to take the pictures. My intentions for this strand are to find a location with large fields and lots of different types of shrubbery. Within these fields I would like to take pictures capturing a controlled amount of negative space and foreground that is in focus.

Darkroom Development
www: I am happy with these images because I found a location with everything that I wanted to photograph and I was able to develop my images in the dark room to exaggerate all the detail in the images.
ebi: I would have liked to find more than one field so that I could have different pictures involving a different build up of shrubbery

Skys and Landscapes
Im going to interoperate sky's and landscapes by mix and matching different landscapes with different sky's. My intentions for this strand are to combine previous images taken and take either the landscape or the sky from the image. Once that has been done I will combine the opposites together and organise them in way to make them appear as though they aren't from different images.
Response
www: I am pleased with my first attempts at this strand as I was able to use interesting images to combine and achieved my goal of making the new image look as though it is the original.
ebi: I would have liked to use different variety of sky's (day and nights sky's) rather than just cloudy day time sky's.

Skys and landscapes - Darkroom interpretation
For this development I have decided to combine photos taken with my digital camera and photos printed in the darkroom. I am doing this through photoshop where I will either use the sky or the landscape of an image and combine it with the opposite to create a completely new image.

Imaginary Observations
Noemie Goudal is french photographer who challenges to boundaries of reality and present through surreal landscapes created on photoshop. She edits hard concrete architecture into a watery wasteland creating a distorted view on reality. The majority of the architecture chosen has a brutalist atheistic. For this development I am using some old images and some new to place structures in urban landscapes. To do this I will use photoshop to help to structures appear as though its their natural landscape and use special tools to help it blend in.
Response
I have decided to continue this task however I felt as though that I was repeating myself with past images. Therefore over the weekend I travelled to Hampstead Heath to capture the landscape. However while taking these photographs I attempted to have less people as I wanted the focus of the image to be the landscape and not whats going on inside. I made sure that while I was positioning my self to take these images that I was still experimenting with the negative space so that I have a variety of images.

- Adam Jeppesen
These images by Adam Jeppesen are all printed on rice paper and then folded symmetrically. I have chosen to develop my work inspired by Adams work as both are of vast landscapes and for my previous developments I have printed my work onto photographic paper in the darkroom. I used my prints to further incorporate my work with different medias of photography by using photoshop to place object in my print into photos taken with a digital camera. For this development I plan to experiment by printing images into different types of paper and by folding them in different ways and photograph the images under different lighting from underneath the create a greater contrast and to emphasis the folds in the paper.
Flat Response - tracing paper
Crumpled Response - tracing paper
Rice Paper
For these Images I focused more about experimenting with different types of light. I used the light box and the over head projector to have the ability to use different strengths of light.
Combination of the different types of paper
These images are a combination of all the different types of paper. I experimented with the papers by layering them in different orders and different lights.
For these images I took all the different types of paper I printed on (normal plain white paper, tracing paper, rice paper) and experimented with layering them in different combinations and different orders.
www: I am pleased with this development as I was able to continue my experimentation with printing on different materials
ebi: I could have improved this development further by a larger variety of photographs of urban landscapes to print onto a larger variety of different types of paper.

Alexandra Palace Landscapes
These are photographs taken in Alexandra Palace over the half term. I plan to use these to something similar to what I have just completed where I will print the images onto different materials and experiment with them in different processes.
Paris Trip
Through this Paris trip we travelled around Paris via Metro. We travelled to a variety of art galleries and important structures. My intentions on this trip where to take a variety of photographs however my main focuses were to capture man made structures and vast landscapes. To achieve the intention of photographing vast landscapes we travelled to the top of the Eiffel tower where I was able to capture many photographs from many different angles and different heights. To achieve my intention of capturing man made structures we travelled around the Louvre where I was able to photograph buildings with intricate designs. However once we when inside the Lourve I was able to photograph the vast ceilings covered with incredible tilled designs and large windows.
Anthony Cairns
For this response I am going to use new images printed on acetate and rather than layering different types of paper on top of one another I'm going to experiment with using different sizes of paper and adjusting the enlarger to different heights and different apertures. His images look towards the action from eye level. My intentions for these images are to capture buildings while looking up at them and overdeveloping the pictures a bit to make the edges, layers and bricks more clear.

Second response
For these images I travelled to Camden Town. I walked up and around the river to capture images which I then printed onto acetate and use those to develop images in the darkroom.
www: I am happy with this development because I was able to frame them exactly how a aimed to by capturing enough negative space while still being able to capture people in focus.
ebi: To improve this development I could have gotten more angles of some of buildings I photographed

Final Piece
I have chosen these images for my Final Pieces because I feel that they show my how my skills in the darkroom have developed over the course. I feel these images also show how my framing and my ability to use the darkroom to develop an image a specific amount to create the exact image I've created in my mind.
With the Anthony Cairns development I plan to photograph location by taking the same steps that he did. When Cairns arrives at a location he begins to photograph areas from a wider angle and therefore capturing more in the frame. Cairns then continues to photograph specific areas within the locations from a closer distance so he is than able to focus on certain objects. While he focuses on more specific objects his main intentions is to capture an image with more detail and therefore giving him the ability to present the location in different ways.

Second response
For my second response I travelled to areas around waterloo station at night. My intentions were to photograph different types of structures made out of exposed materials like concrete or steel. While printing these images, I left them under the UV light overnight so that all the angles on the building are clearly visible. This meant that the image appears much darker however I was able to experiment with different light boxes to allow certain sections of the image could be more visible.
These images are the same to the ones uploaded above, however they were only under to UV light for an hour. This means that the images appear much lighter.
www: I think my images appear much better when they develop for longer as they gave me the ability to experiment with different light boxes and gave me further opportunities to develop my images
ebi: I would have liked to print my 1 hour prints for longer so that they still appear light that my first attempt however they would also give me more ability to manipulate the images. However because they were to light when placed on top of light sources, parts of the image were less visible and a refraction of the light source could be seen through.

Final Piece
I have chosen these images as for my final piece because I feel they show how my framing has developed over time and how my environment influenced me to involved more structure that people in more as I feel it allows me to frame my images better. While these images show how I am able develop images in the darkroom and using UV light. This presents how I am able to experiment with different medias to achieve a specific image. My intentions was to create a images containing exposed materials like concrete, steel and various types of graffiti and to maintain the high levels of texture through my digital images to my darkroom developments.
